Alexei Shulgin is an artist, a low-tech musician, a teacher and co-organizer of the Read_me software art festival in Moscow. Most important of all, he is one of the pioneers of net.art.

His works subvert the common expectations about the potential of the interface of the Internet and of our own computer. They subvert it in such a way that the user is literally forced to engage in a funny and ironical reflection about the nature of digital technologies within our analog lives. « By creating net-works that aim to engage the user as a collaborateur of the artist, he stands both in the tradition of russian conceptualism and of the "social sculpture" of Joseph Beuys.» (Tilman Baumgaertel)

Alexei Shulgin - guest of and awarded by many international electronic arts events worldwide (from Ars Electronica to the Borderhack, just to name a few) - is currently shocking Europe with the amazing synthesized sounds of his 386DX Cyberpunk Rock Band.
