thinner is one of the more serious net labels which in the past two years have been giving a fresh impact on contemporary dance music. for two and a half years they've been seriously treating the dance perspective on contemporary electronic music inspired from the dub influences. from the very first release the quality which they want to imply through the production and the precisely conceived design is evident. with all the 50 releases behind them they split the most contemporary dance music in which the dub revival sound concept is implemented, fusioned with tech house, techno, trance, ambient... constantly treating new but high quality artists, they've created a serious background in the new dance culture.
the thinner compilations are released for special occasions, while each of them marks the period and the sound at the time. this compilation is released so as to mark the 50th release and at the same time to define the sound that this label will treat in the next period. the sound is once more that organic dubby sound, only this time with a clearer and more precise dance production which is evidently the new phase in the development of the thinner sound. completely dance oriented, the new thinner sound is potentially the most contemporary dance floor sound. produced by the already established artists, and a few new ones, the material of this compilation is the sound which these artists with their ep's and lp's, are getting ready to place through thinner in 2004.
the whole new international thinner journey starts with a new artist: jason corder and his soothing minimalhouse track serotone. we're already familliar with digitalis from the previous thinner release, and this track china hope is only a clear and nice preview for the following album in 2004. the other artists which show up are the well known mitek artists johan fotmeijer, martin jarl and johan skuge. in case you've heard their music before, it's what you can get through these tracks, pleasant minimalistic dubby atmosphere. fotmeijer and skuge will have their own releases for thinner, and we can expect ones for the well known mitek and resopal schallware. niel jensen appears again on thinner, this time with his alias dialogue and it is right after his recent release for trapez. benfay is one of the artists who is surely recognized through thinner and his few releases. clearly and neatly benfay once more plays with his strong sound. tristen polar follows with model citizen (for the first time for this label), break oriented track with which he shows that he is good enough to keep on releasing for thinner. right after the moris/audio and karloff releases is the thinner-ep. selfish here maintains one classical track (cheer up) with a very striking bass and a proper rhythm, unlike the sound on his previous thinner release. likewise eloi brunelle's honeygroove follows up with the very well recognizable deep bass line. an artist well known through force inc. the compilation montreal smoked meat, the thinner compilation montrealers and one of the latest releases [thn042] montreal night grooves ep. the deepest track here is offered by pheek. classical thinner sound characteristic for his previous releases including his [thn043] tabisuru kokoro lp. coming after are dennis desantis with the techy track dig button and the project sensual physics which is another comeback for joerg schusters who so far is known for his thinner projects digitalverein and lufth. at the very end the closing of this compilation is left to krill.minima, the most minimal and ambiental thinner artist so far with his seducing intimate track. one of the rare thinner vocal tracks.
