va - barbecue beats ii: return of the yams (the agriculture)

the agriculture records is a label that treats independent electronica that comes from brooklyn. this is their second compilation that contains tracks of artists who’ve so far released for agriculture and their sensibility varies from one end to the other. from their previous releases i have some sort of a general idea about what they are trying to say, and it was what i expected from this compilation. i was completely right. from the most subtle dub, through break variations, funk moments, dub&bass, ethno experiments, to the uber-classical instrumental hip hop. on the other hand, it also contains the laziest duby influences, to a complete jump up dance atmosphere. nettle (aka dj rapture) is standard hard in his solutions, dj olive is categorical in his attempt to contemporarily interpret outstanding oldschool dub atmosphere, while dj wally is too much idm oriented. here you can also find the dubby pieces of sub dub, lady man (badawi) and once 11, the chilled out moments of gpe, lunchbox and lloop and finally the twisted variations of david last and dj olive together with earwig. of course you can check out how all of them sound on their solo releases for the agriculture.
this compilation is intended to listen to in those totally relaxed moments when you’re preparing a barbecue in your backyard, enjoying the conversations and having fun with your friends. the very agriculture recommend: “having a barbecue with your friends? play this. need to clean out the kitchen? play this...” so you can take their advice. barbecue, friends, beer...it’s all fine, except i don’t eat meat...
