this is one of the most crucial releases by one of the most crucial projects on the musical scene today. take a look at the names that stand behind this wacky name. pigeon funk are: the subtle and charming safety scissors (the owner of proptronix, has released for plug research), the introvert sutekh (runs context, releases for force inc.) and when you ask yourself who’s missing in this whole san francisco gang... the answer eventually comes by itself… the intelligent and totally loony kit clayton (owner of orthlorn musork, releases for ~scape). what made these nice guys to create this project? they surely live in a completely urban environment. the pigeons are also some of the most urban citizens of those environments frequently occupying almost every city. the most recent information tell us that these three respected characters secretly cooperated with these special species of birds. identifying themselves with them these bird-brain guys take over the name pigeon funk and start to make music simply defined as pigeon funk. although it looks as if it is quite simple to define this sound, this release is brimming with entirely complicated and twisted tracks that emit subversive messages. in each of these tracks you can feel the style of their creator. safety scissors’ tracks and totally funky, while sutekh is noisy as always. kit, of course, is loony. in the whole bird constellation a little wobbly (tigerbeat6, alku) is involved via a remix. radically funky, perhaps electro, techno at moments, noisy with a break sensibility, this album is just right for dancing, breaking, jumping, listening or whatever... in case you’re a bird, a human, or something in between. you can listen to it at home, outside, on a branch, a telephone wire...
on this collaborative release between proptronix and onitor (prop cd01/onitor 27) you can find vinyl only releases previously released for these two labels, the first proptronix ep (proptronix 01), likewise onitor’s releases ‘moron presents pigeon funk presents!!! (onitor 11) and pigeon funk remixed (onitor 26). plus you can look at the visuals for the track mocito (directed by ruben fleischer) and fly the coop directed by luis brieceno from metronomic and arnaud delord. this work was also mastered by another crazy pigeon named twerk (force inc., mille plateaux, context) and the extra funky design was pooped by pigeon, slang international. that would be all the info. thanx to pigeons.
