opaque – new ways to criticise (consume/8m)

opaque are les cummings (guitar) and murray johntson (guitar). so far they’ve been working for more than 6 years, creating music which is a cross between the guitar improv sound and harsh noise. new ways to criticize is evidently a critique. or a method of criticizing. new ways of criticizing. the first thing that comes as basis for intellectual offence and basis for indignation is surely the society. or its limiting nature towards the personality of oneself. the noise sound is the best way for expressing it as a contra cultural phenomenon, that is also the way in which opaque express their indignation. classic harsh noise, rhythmical distortions, guitar improvisation, swerved electronics...layers of guitar distortion are laminated so as to gain a firm sound wall of noise which is constantly mutating in all sorts of different surreal shapes. it intensifies to reach enormous dimensions, and then scatters until it becomes quiet to a total collapse. at moments the very guitar becomes recognizable so that already in the next moment it transforms unnoticeably into a mass of noise which abruptly splashes changing the shapes of its amorphous condition. maybe this sound at moments will sound already familiar, but that is the way in which many devotees of the noise scene express their indignation.
