motor - horse trax (top 40)

here we have the second top-40 release signed under the name of the owner motor. an artist that comes from moscow and has so far released four 12” singles for audio nl in which he displays his cologne to berlin techno perspective, slowly changing it from concrete to more abstract. and his self released cd hexen is one of the releases that brought him to attention. in case you read the review for the first top-40 release, likewise signed under the name motor, then you probably noticed that it was a matter of a completely experimental sound manipulation and a total change of interests in the sound destination. horse trax is something in between. deep music that consists of fluttery hums, a deep beat, noise, glitch and all sorts of field recordings. the rhythmical tracks are abstract in their own structure, composed of blurry transparent repetitive melody, no concrete muted and barely recognizable beat with a microglitch from time to time. while those tracks that don’t contain rhythm are noisy oriented, yet subtle and deep, constructed of nice layers, noise melody, sinewaves, microglitch with a nicely incorporated glitchy elements, cut up moments and random field recordings... ringing, airplane, a car engine, a digital watch, speech... those two elements (the rhythm and melody on one hand and the noise and field recording on the other) are simply mixed into each other to simply fade and turn into a different track. the first track ‘zet’ starts in the most basic and natural condition of feeling and mood. similar background and basic melody moments get through the rest of horse trax. unique, subtle, fascinating...
