junior boys - high come down ep (kin)

this is the second ep from canada's junior boys and also the second release on the uk-london based label kin. junior boys have got very positive feedback for their first birthday/last exit ep from many magazines and journalists like de:bug, simon reynolds, pitchfork, stylus, dusted... although junior boys create specific kind of electro tracks, they have been compared even with luomo, because of the specific structure of their music. the first ep is from october 2003 and high come down ep is from february 2004.
birthday track here is remixed by manitoba. that remix didn't really caught me, i think it's a weaker moment on this ep. manitoba adds a certain kind of indie sense and some blurry 4/4 beats to jb's music, but everything is too mixed up for me. although it's maybe mixed up in the luomo-way, it should be mentioned that this music is definitely more laid back, not as up-beat as luomo. the best moments on this ep (at least for me) are under the sun and especially the title-track high come down. under the sun is the longest track, 7 minutes of fine synth-electro-pop. high come down is much more twisted, with wrapped up easy-going beats and electro rain-drops, and damn damn... this is also very much laid back and chilled, background electro of the finest kind, amazing track. it will probably be on my top 10 list of best singles released in 2004. the last track from this ep is just a closer, it sounds like it might have been done by isan. junior boys make twisted and various kinds of fine and sometimes transparent&see-through electro-pop that's quite different from the others. remember this name and watch out for their forthcoming album in april 2004.
