horchata – basidia (ad noiseam)

michael palace is one of the artists well known for the project horchata, as for his highly appreciated collaborations. horchata with his first album ‘integral’, a direct forerunner of ‘basidia’ gives an example and a definition of the illbient/dark hop sound. in this second solo album of his, he tries to bring back the inherited sound of his previous album. he redefines the dark hop sound through the severe hard rhythms, deep bass lines and dark ambient melody. a combination of all that resembles a contemporary dark trip/hip hop variation with industrial interferences from time to time in the entire dark ambient feeling. at moments completely ambiental, other times glitchy and cut up oriented, and sometimes actually classical with experimental moments. partly made with field recordings from his travel across the amazon forests, this album’s sound varies from tracks that above all contain subtle ambiental melodies and organic atmospheres to pieces with deep beats. sometimes you hear all these elements arranged in a classical idm structure. dark and fine.
