al haca - family business (al haca)

the mini lp release (one of three that will be released only digitally) 'family business' by al haca, with it's seven tracks and a length of about half hour, merges few styles in an interesting combination that sounds eclectic and coherent at once: a general techno sensibility, dub, 4-4 beats, a discrete idm and songwriting sense, maybe even dubstep, rap and hip-hop, because of the vocals and singing lyrics that are included in the tracks. even though this is my first encounter with their music, the eclectic approach is probably expected, since al haca are a soundsystem collective that played various styles like dub, punk and other electronic music. when playing, they also shared the stage with peter kruder, modeselektor and roni size, so the atmosphere of mutant beats is expected in their music. al haca's music on this release reminds a little bit of larytta (both acts are keen on using mutant beats), another similar electronic artists with more industrial influences in their music, while al haca's 'family business' is somehow more calmer, specially in the second half of this release, when the dub sound (a bit like rhythm & sound) comes more on the surface. the modern chill out atmosphere is present throughout the whole release, so maybe, in this post-minimal-techno period, this music may be the good link between nowadays dance music that's played in clubs and the new dance music that might come out from the combination of all the styles that somehow seem to be modern today, if a revolution is needed in those areas of dance and club oriented music...
